Selling Luxury Products on Poshmark

What is Social Commerence?Â
Social selling is all about engagement
You are engaging on a more personal level with your followers and potential customers. Throughout this guide, you will find us returning to this topic of engagement—it’s one of the key topics to consider and apply to your system for long-term success.
We need to understand Social Commerce to adapt and succeed:
-
Consumers need human interactions combined with social discovery to and the right products to t their needs.
-
In essence, social commerce leverages the human interactions prominent on social networks to power more personal, immersive transactions and drive an unparalleled shopping experience.
-
Unlike previous generations, shoppers are mobile and social—two unique characteristics with far-reaching impacts on shipping habits, preferences, and relationships.
-
Social Commerce is the next generation of retail.Â
Create Your Profile
Keep it personalÂ
No matter how big your company is, your Poshmark account should have a personal touch. Let’s walk through setting up your profile, keeping these tips in mind throughout.

Download the Poshmark App onto a mobile device. Follow the tips below when creating your account:

Create your new account with your email address. If you already have a Poshmark account, click the login link.

A:Â Enter your first name.
B:Â Enter your last name.
C:Â Enter the email you wish to use for Poshmark
D: Create a Username – This is what Poshmark users will see when you share or comment. I suggest you use your business name or something related.
E:Â Create your Password
F:Â Unless you only sell items for one Gender, I suggest you leave this as Unspecified.
G:Â If you were referred to Poshmark by another user, enter the Invite Code you received here.
H: Click to take a photo or upload a picture for your profile. Again, keeping it personal is important on Poshmark. I suggest you have a photo of yourself, an employee, or, at the very least, a stock photo of a person.

A:Â Enter a common shoe size
B:Â Enter a common shirt size
Since Poshmark does not have business accounts as of this writing, you’re entering personal details. Keep things as generic as possible.
C:Â Enter a zip code you are located at or will ship from.

You should follow the brands that you will be selling. This will help to connect you with other Poshmark users. Click through the Follow More Brands link to find more brands.

A: You can skip this step, but here’s a tip: if you have an existing customer list, load your phone with those contacts and upload those to Poshmark to find customers who are already on Poshmark. This will jumpstart your following and connections.
B:Â Want to connect with your Facebook followers? Use this feature.
C:Â Connect your Twitter followers to your Poshmark store
D:Â Connect with Poshmark Ambassadors.Â
Â
Edit Your "About Listing"
When you created your account, a “Meet your Posher” listing was created in your store. This listing is where you can begin to personalize your information. Just like a regular listing, you can add up to 8 photos – keep these personal. If you don’t want to use your own photos, how about your employees? Photos of your team, anything with a personality.
At the very least, get some stock photos of actual humans to post in the Meet Your Posher listing.
In the listing, you will also have 1500 characters to describe your business and to make a connection with potential customers. Again, keep it as personal as you can. Why are you in business? What got you started? Where are you located? What is your specialty, and what makes you unique?
You get the idea.
Â
Start Following
One of the keys to success on Poshmark is to build your followers. As you create a network of potential customers, you will increase your credibility, as well as your sales. Followers will always see your new listings and shares (more on that later) in their News Feed. Like all social platforms, the more followers you have, the better.
As you get started, following established sellers on Poshmark is a good place to start. Find these people on the Poshmark App by clicking the @username card in the lower right corner of the app. From there, click Find People > Connect with Posh Ambassadors. Ambassadors have reached a certain level of sales, feedback, and other performance indicators.Â

This is also a good time to view Ambassadors stores and see how their listings look. Stick to looking at sellers with 50,000 or more followers who have been on Poshmark for some time.
Following is quick on the Poshmark App. You should be able to follow 1000 people in about 10-minutes. When starting, I suggest you follow 3000-5000 people per day. Once you have followed Ambassadors, you can then click into THEIR followers and follow them. Just click the Followers link at the top of any closet to see a list of followers.
This broad-based, shotgun approach to followers is a good place to start. You will quickly build up your own followers at some ratio – typically 40-50% of the people you follow will follow you back. Again, this is just to start.
Boutique Certification
If you are selling new products that you are manufacturing or sourcing directly, you should signup for the Poshmark Boutique Certification. This only takes a few minutes in the Poshmark app and it will help to increase your credibility and exposure..

You’re on your way to building your credibility and followers! In Section 2 we will spend time Decoding the Poshmark App and Web interface to familiarize yourself with both ways to interact with Poshmark.
Who to Follow First?Â
As you get started, I suggest you first follow successful sellers who will typically follow you back and help to share items in your store with their followers. You will see these shares in your News Feed, and I encourage you to spend some time each day sharing back listings of these successful sellers.

Click their username in your feed then share some items from their closet with your followers. These sellers are often Posh Ambassadors and it is worth your time to follow and share their items – this will continue to build your credibility and your followers.
To find Poshmark Ambassadors, go to Settings > Find People > Connect with Ambassadors. Once you are an Ambassador, your store will be featured occasionally in this area, increasing your exposure.
I suggest you start by following 1000 of these sellers each day as you get started. You will typically see a 30-50% “follow back” ratio. You will notice that these sellers will begin to share your listings to increase your exposure and credibility.
Once you have built your follower network to 50,000, you can slow down following in volume each day and then focus on following buyers rather than other sellers. You will have built up credibility and trust, and you will be ready to switch tactics to draw more buyers to your closet.Â
Targeting Buyers
While it’s important to spend some time (especially when just getting started) following sellers with massive followers of their own, my analysis suggests that these sellers are just that, more interested in selling than buying.

Small stores where you can see that someone is selling their own items, or brand new Poshmark users with no listings for sale in their closets are mainly on Poshmark to shop – THESE are the Poshmark users you want to target.
Why these buyers pay more.
I monitor my sales closely. Keeping detailed statistics and analytics related to offers made, sale prices, how long the sale cycle for a particular brand is, and more. During this reporting, I’ve noticed that one type of buyer consistently generates more Net Profit for me. The key metric hit me as I began to record how long a buyer had been on Poshmark before buying an item from me, along with how many items for sale they had in their own Poshmark closet.
I found a direct correlation between the length of time a buyer had a Poshmark account and how much profit I could generate from a sale to them, along with a ratio of the number of items for sale in their own closet to how profitable a sale to them was.
What I found was that the longer a potential customer was using Poshmark, the less profittable they became. The same holds true for the number of listings a potential customer has in their closet: the more listings, the less profitable a sale is.Â
The Low Ball - Effect
I believe that new Poshmark users are on the lookout for deals. They come to Poshmark and search for specific brands or a specific product and they are delighted with the low prices they find.Â
While it’s true that these new Poshers are looking for a good price, more importantly, they want to buy from a trusted seller with a professional-looking closet, lots of sales history, and great feedback.Â
In my experience, 78% of my full-priced sales come from these new Poshmark accounts. These are sales made with no offers, where the buyer just clicks the Buy Now link and pays my full asking price.

In addition, more than 67% of these full-priced buyers don’t have any items for sale in their closet. They have yet to experience the common practice of getting hit with 50% or less offers for items they are selling. These low offers impact the perceived value of items for sale on Poshmark and change buying habits.Â
Buyers that become sellers begin to think that everyone sells for less, so they should begin making low priced offers on your products. These low-ball offers waste your time and change what customers think of the true value of the items you are selling. Many sellers mark up prices in the hopes that they will get a more reasonable offer on their products. I think there is a better way to increase the number of full-priced sales (sales with no offer made) and to increase the number of reasonable offers that you would be willing to sell an item for.
So, how do we target these buyers who are ready to pay your asking prices or make a reasonable offer? Stick around to know.Â
Â
Targeting The Full - Priced Buyer
So, where do you find these new Poshmark users and how do get them to your closet. Let’s find them first. On the Poshmark App, click the lower right “card” with your account name on it. Then click Find People > New People > Just Joined.

Once you get to this list of brand-new Poshmark users – click the Follow button next to each name. You can follow up to 1000 new users in less than 10 minutes using this method.Â
Do this, every-single-day. You’ll be connecting with valuable customers and a good percentage will follow you back. Your shares will then show up in their unclogged newsfeed and you’ll have a chance to start a new, profitable relationship with these potential customers.
I start each day with this 1000 followers method – I do it in the morning as I am having coffee and I find that it starts my day off to a productive start. Once I spend the 10-15 minutes to find and follow 1000 new potential customers, I feel pretty darn productive, and it launches my day with what I call a Symphony of Action that propels me to the next tasks I need to accomplish.Â
This is so important that I want to show you this image again:

Once you begin to build up followers and your credibility becomes strong, focusing on following BUYERS vs other SELLERS will have a dramatic impact on your sales.Â
These new Poshmark users will be alerted that you have followed them, they will be curious about who you are, and they will visit your store. Many will follow you back and “like” items for future reference, and some will Buy Now at your full asking price.
So far, I have shown you two following methods. First, you are following established sellers to get them to share your products and to help build your credibility and now you are following brand-new Poshmark users that are very profitable.Â
I shared with you how to find Fresh Closets and New Poshmark users via the mobile app. If you recall, you want to go to Your Profile > Find People > Fresh Closets and Your Profile > Find People > New People. This is only for the Poshmark App.
To find new Poshmark users on the Poshmark website, follow this link. It's not perfect, but you will get a large selection of new closets.Â
Brand Focused Following
The third method I recommend is focusing your following on Poshmark users who are interested in the brands you are selling. Brand selection is critically important for your closet.Â
View the trending brands’ reports and other data Poshmark provides to help you decide what brands to source. Subscribe to the Poshmark Blog , and be sure to read the monthly Poshmark newsletter.
Check out the Poshmark Trend Report for help with brand selection.
Brand Following
You should also focus your following on Posh users that are interested in the brands you are selling. Here’s how: On the Poshmark App, click the lower right “card” with your account name on it. Then click Find People > My Brands. Here you will find a list of recent brands you have listed for sale, along with Popular Brands on Poshmark. You can also search for a specific Brand to target.

Search for Prada, and you’ll be presented with a list of users who have selected Prada as one of the brands they are interested in or have listed a Prada item for sale in their closet at one time. These are valuable customers that you want to target. Do your 1000 followers in a routine to connect with these potential customers interested in the brands you are selling.Â
Focused Following
By using the methods I described in Section 4, you will connect with more full-priced buyers and potential customers interested in your brands. This type of focused following is far more powerful than randomly following as many Poshmark users as you can daily.
You will need support. All kinds of groups can help with your Poshmark journey. In the next section, I will begin with my experience with groups and how to make the most of them.
Connecting With Groups
You can learn a lot by connecting with Poshmark groups on Facebook and other social platforms. There are lots of resources and interacting with other sellers can be a big help.

But be warned: Check the source of any advice, suggestions, or “inside information” that you read. There are some great people in most groups, but I have found that there can be a lot of unnecessary drama, sniping, and negativity. Again, they can be a good resource, but I encourage you to avoid drama and any negativity that can slow down your path to success.
Some great groups, like the Poshmark Analytics group on Facebook, can be very helpful and answer questions. But again, be sure to check the source for credibility and experience.
I have spent the past three years connecting with Poshmark business sellers and Poshmark representatives to learn as much as possible about the marketplace. The content for this course comes from this research and my direct experience.Â
Getting invited to Poshmark HQ and meeting with CEO Manish Chandra to discuss business sellers was a huge recognition for me. The techniques we are working on these pages worked for me, and they can work for you.
