Mike McCabe has spent his career in TV weather. He's a weather anchor at a local CBS station, a job he loves, in a smaller market he chose so he could put family first. Reselling gave him something he'd never had before: a second income he built himself.
He found couch flipping through a video on TikTok and sat on the idea for about three months. Then, driving to the grocery store on a cold January day, he passed a couch on the curb with a cardboard sign that said FREE. He took it as his sign. He didn't own an extractor or know how to tie a load down properly. He loaded it into his truck anyway, cleaned it up in his garage, and sold it the next morning for $200 plus $25 for delivery.
He figured it was a fluke, so he did it again. By February he'd flipped about eight pieces. His first year of flipping furniture brought in roughly $50,000 in sales, and he's on pace for about $60,000 this year, all while keeping his full-time job. His shift starts in the afternoon, so couches get his mornings and weekends.
Along the way, people started asking him how. A neighbor who used to joke that his couches belonged at the dump is now flipping couches himself. Beginners send Mike photos of a torn cushion or a sectional they aren't sure about, and he helps them work out the next move.
That's what he brings to coaching: the practical steps, from finding the piece to cleaning it, photographing it, and pricing it to sell, plus the belief that you can do this too. You don't need a warehouse or a big inventory budget. If you don't have a truck, Mike will tell you to rent one for a weekend and go get your first piece.
“Sometimes you don't have to know the how, you just have to go … and the rest will reveal itself along the way.”
